Eight years now I’ve been custodian of this Cerbera!
I suppose I should start with the breakdown. I promised a warts & all coverage of the good times and bad.
2nd time in 8 years, and the first time since 2021, I found myself stranded by the road.
The annoying thing is, I knew it was coming, but couldn’t get an appointment with my TVR guy for a few weeks, so I risked it, and it got worse, then let go altogether.
I’m referring to the remote gearbox linkage.
First there was a metallic rattle noise coming from the gearknob.
Then after a week or so the gear selection became very vague, then eventually I found myself stuck in 3rd gear.
I’ve tried desperately to find a photo of this linkage (if anyone has one, please let me know and I’ll update this post)
I’ll do my best to explain it. The T5 gearbox in a Cerbera is mounted back from where the driver is seated, but of course the gearstick itself is located next to the driver. Connecting the gearstick and the gear selector on the box is what’s known as the remote linkage (a series of bushes, spacers, fixings and a rod)
It turned out not to be a gearbox out job, but rather a few hours of re-fitting the linkage and replacing some fixings.
Still, it was free anyway. What I saved on fuel not driving it, more than paid for the repair 🙂
Other than that, still loving it, it’s still an event to drive – these are special cars.
